About The Nick Tarayan Bursary
Nick Tarayan spent many years in the food and drinks Industry, spending some of that time as a journalist with a particular commitment to creating opportunities for young people to get into the trade. Nick worked closely with Prue Leith OBE in both her restaurant and outside catering operations and latterly was director of his own wine importing business.
Tragically, in 2006, the year before he was due to take up his position as Chairman of The Champagne Academy, Nick was struck down by a serious illness and is now in long term care at a London nursing home.
In September 2007 a fundraising event for Nick was held at The Middle Temple Hall. There were two objectives: firstly to help the nursing home, where Nick is cared for and secondly to raise money for educational trips and a top student prize. These Bursary activities, in Nick’s name, are dedicated to the continuation of his legacy by creating opportunities that will encourage the next generation of talented sommeliers.
The Champagne Academy, which Nick was set to Chair in 2007, has supported the fundraising. Those of you who met Nick will know something of his charm and many achievements and in particular his overriding goal to bring passion for wine and food into everyone’s life and encourage the young, talented and less advantaged to explore a career in this exciting industry. He was always there to help a good cause and we do ask you now to help us and this great opportunity in any way you can.
Thank you
